Benin

In 2014 I participated in an exchange project between the textile design students from La Cambre, Brussels, and the weavers from Abomey, Benin. They are organised in the "Palais Agonglo" at Abomey old kingdom of Dahomey. Agonglo was the eight kingdom from Dahomey, the king dedicated a part of his residence to weaving and since then, the textile know-how kept it’s place there.

Our aim was to understand their vast tex- tile knowledge, the know-how that is transmitted through weaving generations. For the weavers, the atelier contributed to reflect and rethink their agency and creativity in the process of production of textile goods.

The results of our experiments where exhibited this year in the 11th biennale of African contemporary art in Dakar, Senegal, Africa.
